Emma Featherstone is a committed and passionate musician and teacher with a strong belief that music should be accessible for all people.

Emma is Director of Music at Kings School and a Professional Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland, where she lectures and writes papers in Music at both 2nd and 3rd year levels. She has worked and toured extensively as a musician. Her impressive performance history in classical and rock genres includes drumming for Sisters of Sharon, a rock band with a cult following in Hong Kong!

A recipient of the Independent Schools Excellence in Teaching Award, Emma has presented at conferences both in New Zealand and Australia, based around practical approaches to teaching music. With 25 years of teaching experience, Emma has a profound understanding of what music students need. Her warm nature and straight-talking style make her a natural teacher.

The imminent launch of Emma’s music-focused YouTube Channel Emma’s Music Hub’ is an exciting new venture for her. Here, she’ll take her passion for music in general, (and her love for teaching music in particular), to a dedicated YouTube channel created especially for this purpose. ‘Emma’s Music Hub’ will offer pithy, fun and informative clips about a wide range of instruments and their care, as well as an entertaining selection of music-focused material.
